MonoVisions Black & White Photo Contest 2025

How and when did you become interested in photography?

It was about 10 years ago when I started taking pictures. At the beginning it was only holiday photos, later landscapes and portraits of my friends. I felt there was always something missing in my photography. I had an impression that the images I have created already existed. They looked like copies. I wanted to do something new and unique. That is how my style has evolved to what it is now.

Is there any artist/photographer who inspired your art?

Naturally. My inspirations are Helmut Newton, Ellen Von Unverth, Paolo Roversi.
The world and things you see can have the greatest impact on you. I am inspired by what I love the most.

Why do you work in black and white rather than colour?

It is easier. You may hide some details that are not important on the photography. Colours are quite distracting. When you look at B&W photography you may focus on the main subject. Only things that are important are visible like shadows, facial expressions, fracture but not colours that could distract too much.

How much preparation do you put into taking a photograph/series of photographs?

Taking photo is easy. It is just a conclusion of everything you have planned before. Preparation always is the most difficult part for me.
I have to find perfect models, clothes and background that fit my idea. Later I create a story in my head or on the paper. I prepare materials and camera I will use.
There are two different ways of doing it:
a) Collect all elements I have available at the moment: models, clothes, place, stylization… and then I put them all together in my head and create idea based on those available items.
b) I got an idea in my head and try to collect all elements to complete it in every detail. This is more difficult way.
Since few years I have had some of my ideas noted on the paper, and still didn’t gathered all elements I need. Hopefully I will realize it one day soon.

Where is your photography going? What projects would you like to accomplish?

I try to experiment and do something new and original in photography. When you do it alone and do not have a big budget it is not always easy.
Sometimes I need more time to develop my ideas. Often I go to vintage shops to search for different stylization and inspirations.
It is hard to say where my photography is going now. I only know that I would like to memorize beauty and show it to the world. There are still so many things to create. Important is to do it with best quality possible.
In the future I think I will focus on different methods of presenting my idea. I will show only half of the story by using metaphors, playing with viewers and what they see. Only part of the image will be shown and most important element will be hidden, left to their own imagination. Depending of sensitivity everyone will be able to find its own sense in my photo.
