1. How and when did you become interested in photography ?
I became interested in photography, because my aunt liked photography, she gave me her old cameras like Brownies and a Lumière Cilmatic Electric 300 S. I began making photographs when I was 12. I mainly took photographs on holidays, but would often pose my brother and cousins, I dressed them up and pictured stories, my photographies were already in black & white. Much later as a student in a Art School, I discovered the history and the technics of film photography, thanks to passionate but hard teachers. In the photo lab, I spent very pleasant long moments to develop films and print my photographs on beautiful papers.
2. Is there any artist/photographer who inspired your art ?
A lot of photographers, artists and writers inspired me, like Joel-Peter Witkin, Pierre Molinier, Duane Michals, Bernard Faucon, Claude Cahun, Pietro Longhi, Giambattista Tiepolo, Francisco de Goya, Joan Fontcuberta, Honoré de Balzac, Philippe Sollers, Michel Tournier, Nicolas Bourriaud, Jean-Claude Lemagny, Michel Butor, Jean Baudrillard, etc. Music, dance, poetry and films were a great source of inspiration too.
3. Why do you work in black and white rather than colour ?
With film photography, it is easier to use black & white, you can do everything alone. Black & white expresses poetry and allows to go beyond reality.
4. How much preparation do you put into taking a photograph/series of photographs ?
At the moment, I do digital photography. The inspiration and the game are very important, I let myself be carried along by the events. My process that is somewhat slow uses Bulb Mode and few manipulations or none. The camera should merge with the photographer, I like when I can create magic effects.
5. Where is your photography going ? What projects would you like to accomplish ?
Photography is a need for me. It beautifies life and provides a voice to tell story. I have a project of photobook with my series “Marianne”, I am looking for a publishing house.
