When thinking about the Karakoram, colorful images never come to my mind first. Visiting this most majestic mountainous area in the world I was looking mainly for shade. Dark, soaring crags breaking into the sky like the towers of medieval cathedrals, reminded me that the Mountain God, like the medieval one – is strict, does not interfere in human affairs, leaving him alone. Observing these rocky works of art, one can achieve a state of approximation to the absolute despite its unattainability.
