NEW YORK, NY – Chelsea’s Agora Gallery will feature the original work of juror-selected London photographer Madiha Abdo in The Chelsea International Fine Art Competition Exhibition. The exhibition opens August 25th and will run until September 8th, 2015. The opening reception will take place Thursday, August 27th, from 6-8 PM. Any art lover who enjoys thought-provoking artworks and meeting talented and interesting artists is encouraged to attend.
About the Artist
In Madiha Abdo’s photographs, the juxtaposition of darkness and light gives shape to a world that is subtly mysterious, yet has a powerful physical presence. Whether she is showing us a human face or transforming an urban environment into a shadowy, graphically bold scene, the artist balances light, exposure and composition to create a distinctive body of work. Abdo is particularly good at guiding the viewer’s attention by focusing on the small details that animate each image. A scene that is cloaked in darkness will be brought to life by a sharply rendered figure stepping into a shaft of light, or a human subject will be given context by the detailed depiction of surrounding objects or backgrounds.
Abdo works in black and white, which she says lets her “produce images that are strong, pure and without any unnecessary distractions.” She heightens her work’s clarity by printing images on metallic paper, giving them an appealing surface texture. “I want people to experience what I feel during my process of image creation,” she says, “and to have fun while viewing them.”
