How and when did you become interested in photography?
I’ve always been interested in photography, above all in early photography of the late 19th and early 20th century. What first has been a theoretical process, became my greatest passion when I started to take pictures in 2012.
Is there any artist/photographer who inspired your art?
Fashion photography in general has been always a great inspiration, e. g. the oevre of Helmut Newton and Peter Lindbergh. But also Edward Steichens and August Sanders works have impressed me deeply. The inspiration for my first self portraits came from Brooke Shadens and Alex Stoddards storytelling photographies. Due to my archaeology and art history studies I found also inspiration in art works of all epochs.
Why do you work in black and white rather than colour?
I’m not working solely in black and white. But I think that working in black and white can give you the possibility to focus on a special atmosphere, the model’s expression or some fine details. While taking pictures during the EXIT fashion show for my series „Monochrome Fashion Impressions“ I realized that the images are much more expressive and show the event’s atmosphere way better in black and white than in colour. So, since January 2015 I am taking only monochrome pictures during fashion shows. The latest series, FUTURE MONOCHROMY, is much more abstract than other fashion event images I took. I also played with mirroring effects and created some collages for the series.
How much preparation do you put into taking a photograph/series of photographs?
I am planning shoots a few months before finally turning an idea into reality. I’m now using a Canon Camera with a Canon 50mm f1.4 lens. When possible I use natural light. I love working
with Photoshop and I retouch my photographies in most cases. But I always try to let the images still look natural. For the submitted series, FUTURE MONOCHROMY, I mirrored some of the motives to create more abstract and futuristic images.
Where is your photography going? What projects would you like to accomplish?
I’m focusing on fashion and beauty photography and I want to realize a few ideas within the next months. I want to create exceptional editorials working with international teams. On the
other hand, I’m working on a concept for a new self portrait series inspired by one of my favorite authors: Sylvia Plath.
