Behind Somebody’s shoulders perhaps is the most ancient body of work from Martino Di Silvestro’s portfolios. He believe that in photography human face gives precise connotations to the pictures because of the immediate interaction with the subject, even if his eyes are turned elsewhere. A person seen from behind enables various interpretations and multiplies the perspectives: his presence in the frame does not arouse an univocal feeling and it is a further filter that joins the photographic lens. The landscape fixed by the camera is several times perceived and interpreted, first of all by the enigmatic portrayed character, so authentic in his unawareness. It has become an aesthetic research, full of an intimate and respectful attention.
Martino Di Silvestro (Italy, b. 1972) is a freelance photographer. He begins taking pictures while studying architecture. Since then the camera is a constant companion in his professional and daily life, a means to explore the hidden geometry underlying the physical world. He is especially interested in recounting what happens to people in everyday life. He now lives in Geneva and has exposed his photographs in Italy, France, Turkey and Switzerland.
