Biography: City Life photographer Willy Ronis


Willy Ronis (1910 – 2009) was a French photographer. He was a son of Jewish immigrants from Russia and Lithuania. He started with photography in his father portrait studio. In 1936 after death of his father Ronis went free-lance, continuing with commercial commissions and beginning reportage. Ronis joined the photo agency Rapho together with Brassaï, Robert Doisneau and Ergy Landau. He was a first French photographer who started cooperation with Life magazine.
